Orthodontics
Treatments
After
carefully reviewing all dental history, it may be
necessary for orthodontic treatment. This treatment
usually consists of applying braces or other appliances
to move the teeth and/or jaw into their correct
position. Braces consist of brackets, which are
bonded to the teeth and connected to the other
teeth by wires.
Invisalign treatment consists of a series of custom-made, removable aligners that you switch out every two weeks. Invisalign is a great way to transform your smile without interfering with your day-to-day life.
You
may be aware of the
more traditional "metal" style.
Today there are clear
plastic types, as well
as ones made of ceramic.
They may, in some
instances, be placed
on the inside of the
teeth for a more "natural" appearance.
These
braces are not recommended
for everyone and will
not take care of all
orthodontic problems.
Because they are more
difficult to place
and may require
more adjustments than
the other recommended
procedures, they are
also a bit more expensive.
A
retainer can also
be used, in some cases,
for the main treatment
or post treatment.
A retainer is a specially
fabricated tool created
to help "hold" the
teeth in their correct
positions. Retainers
can be removable or
they can be cemented
into place.
It
is usually customary
for the patient to
wear a retainer for
a brief period of
time after they have
had their braces removed,
to allow the tissues
to stabilize and settle.
